ROMAIN BERGER is a French photographer and production designer whose practice lies at the intersection of cinema, staged photography and fiction. His work is built around meticulously crafted images conceived as suspended narratives, where atmosphere, colour and composition play a central role.

Working with a cinematic approach, he designs and hand-builds all of his own sets, while carefully shaping light through continuous lighting and coloured gels. This highly artisanal process allows him to create fully controlled environments in which every detail contributes to the narrative.

His work naturally draws on queer iconography, as it emerges from the worlds he knows and the experiences that shape his life. Through his images, he stages gay narratives exploring desire, joy, excess, solitude and vulnerability. By giving visibility to stories that are too often expected to conform to more conventional or assimilated representations, his work naturally takes on a political dimension. The male body becomes both a visual language and an object of the sacred.

His visual universe invites viewers into a world where desire and convention are constantly challenged, offering an experience that is as emotional as it is cinematic. Each photograph exists as an autonomous fiction, nourished equally by cinema and photography, with influences ranging from Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Wong Kar-wai and Gregg Araki to David LaChapelle, Robert Mapplethorpe and Tom of Finland.
